Center For American Studies affiliated with the Faculty of Law and Administration of the Adam Mickiewicz University in PoznaΕ„ is honored to invite you to take part in the 4th International Conference titled “American Legal, Political, Philosophical & Economic Thought: Theoretical Reflections and Contemporary Challenges”.

The conference will be held on Saturday, July 24, 2021, from 1 PM to 8 PM (CEST) as well as on Sunday, July 25, from 9 AM until 8 PM (CEST) online on the Microsoft Teams platform.

One of the most important goals of the conference is to discuss the history of shaping and current functioning of the American legal, political, and economic institutions through an interdisciplinary prism. The conference encourages and aims at using scholarly achievements of various strains of philosophy, sociology, political science, economics, and law.
Proposed (sample) thematic areas of your conference presentation:
β€’ Ch.S. Pierce and W. James’ pragmatism as the philosophical basis of American legal realism;
β€’ the sociological jurisprudence of Roscoe Pound and the social engineering project;
β€’ Roscoe Pound’s dispute with the realists (K.N. Llewellyn and J. Frank);
β€’ law in action and critics of the law in books;
β€’ American theories of justice and other legal theories (John Rawls, Robert Nozick, Ronald Dworkin, etc.);

β€’ the role of the United States in the Bretton Woods system

Steps necessary to register for the conference as an active participant (conference speaker):

β€’ The above-mentioned activities should be performed by 23.59 on July 8, 2021 (we will not extend this deadline)
β€’ Payment of the conference fee to the bank account number that will be provided to the qualified speakers in an e-mail – the fee must be paid by July 12, 2021 at the latest.
Formal requirements for abstracts:
β€’ Text length: 200-300 words;
β€’ Font: Times New Roman 12;
β€’ Line spacing: 1.5;
β€’ Justified text;
β€’ File format: PDF;
β€’ File name: Last name + First name, e.g. Jones Susanna.pdf;
β€’ Your first and last name and affiliation (university) of the author / co-authors should also be included in the abstract at the top of the page;
β€’ The abstract should also be pasted as text into the Speaker Application Form.
We reserve the right to select abstracts. At the same time, we would like to inform you that abstracts that do not meet the above-mentioned requirements will be rejected in the initial formal selection process. The results of the abstract selection process will be announced by July 10, 2021.
PASSIVE PARTICIPATION (CONFERENCE AUDIENCE)
Passive participation is free of charge. The Conference will be broadcasted on YouTube. The link to the live stream will be shared later.

Speakers:
β€’ 219 PLN / 49 EUR – traditional certificate (printout of a paper certificate bearing the electronic signature of the member of the Center For American Studies’ President and its Director of Academic Affairs) sent via post to the postal address provided by the speaker;
β€’ 199 PLN / 45 EUR – digital certificate (electronically signed by the President of the Center For American Studies and its Director of Academic Affairs; PDF for self-printing) sent to the e-mail address provided by the speaker.
Important! Please use the following pattern when filling in the transfer title field when making the payment of your conference fee*: “<first name and last name> – fee for active participation (select the appropriate one) – <American Legal, Political, Philosophical & Economic Thought>”
* Failure to do so may result in delays in posting the fee on the appropriate account and, consequently, even exclude your participation in the conference.
In the case of a co-authorship of a presentation by two authors, please pay the fee for each of the co-authors separately.

β€’ It is possible to receive a VAT invoice;
β€’ The fee is non-refundable;
β€’ The link to the online conference room will be made available to registered participants within 24 hours before the start of the conference;
β€’ It is possible to deliver a conference presentation by two speakers (the fee should be multiplied by the number of speakers);
β€’ The presentation time is 10-15 minutes (depending on the fact of giving a solo or duet presentation and the total number of presentations during the conference);
β€’ Certificates of participation will be sent by traditional mail / e-mail within two (Poland) or three (rest of the world) months from the end of the conference;
β€’ The Center For American Studies arranges the order of presentations. The exact time of speaking at the conference is pre-determined by CFAS (it will be not possible to change the time of your conference presentation set in the conference schedule).
β€’ During the presentation it is necessary to use both the microphone and the web camera (audio-video transmission). Failure to comply with this requirement will result in the participant’s inability to receive the conference certificate.
